PLTW + STEM Office Redesign, 2015- 2016
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
CLIENT PROFILE
The client for this project is the Wisconsin chapters of both Project Lead The Way and STEM Education Coalition, located in the Campus Center building on the Milwaukee School of Engineering campus.
The offices of PLTW and STEM cater to students in both programs, as well as students of MSOE.
The office as a whole currently features a reception area, private offices, a semi-private conference/meeting area, and the Innovation Zone. The redesign of this office will feature the same spaces, however, the new programming of this office will allow for increased circulation through the space from MSOE students, as well
as increased visibility into the offices an Innovation Zone.
CONCEPT
The PLTW + STEM Office Redesign is focused on increasing visibility into the space and changing the flow of motion in the space in order to increase PLTW + STEM’s presence at MSOE and to make the office a more functional space for both faculty and students. By knocking out the border walls between the office and hallway, students have more access to the workspace and Innovation Zone. The Innovation Zone features large glass panels, borrowing natural light from the student workspace just north of the office, making the space seem light and airy. By using wood panels and glass walls, various levels of privacy are created, separating the student
and faculty spaces. By using glass, a visible connection between the various spaces within the office is created, allowing students to connect with faculty and vice versa.
